These very expensive timepieces stole the show at the annual trade fair. Watches & Wonders is for the watch worldwhat New York Fashion Week is to the fashion industry: an unimaginably exclusive event where the industry's most respected brands showcase their latest creations. Normally, the trade fair takes place in picturesque Geneva, surrounded by the snow-capped peaks of the Swiss Alps. This year it was all about Zoom. Less sexy, but the watches were as glamorous (and sometimes priceless) as ever. From Breitling to Hublot: here's a short but powerful overview of the coolest models that stole the show at Watches & Wonders 2021. Rolex The king of watch brands announced modern updates for three classic models: the Explorer, the Explorer II and the Daytona Meteorite Dial. The Explorer returned to its original size of 36 millimeters. The hands of the Explorer II were coated with white gold. And the Meteorite Dial is now made with pebble-sized space rock. The model will be available with a solar cell battery at the end of 2021. But that is not everything. The strap, previously made of leather, now consists of recycled apple peels. Breitling Breitling divides its ambassadors into "squads." Watches for the movie squad decorate Brad Pitt and Adam Driver's wrists. The explorer squad consists of Bertrand Piccard and Inge Solheim. At Watches & Wonders , Breitling introduced new watches for a new group: the founders squad. Especially for the men of Breitling, including founder Leon, son Gatson and grandson Willy. Slightly narcissistic concept, nice watches. Piaget In 2018 Piaget gave a taste of the Altiplano Ultimate. The concept was a complex timepiece with a thickness of 2 millimeters. This insane experiment was successful, but the end result was very expensive and difficult to reproduce. Piaget went back to the drawing board and this month came up with an updated version of the world's thinnest watch, named after the Swiss village where Georges Piaget founded his company two centuries ago. The year "1874" is engraved on the dial. IWC The updated Pilot's Watch Chronograph has been shrunk . The model is not 43 millimeters, but 41. Perhaps because there is less and less demand for the heavy shaking. The Pilot's has a cool steel case and comes in two dial colors: Air Force blue and deep green. Jaeger-LeCoultre The Reverso has been around for ninety years. To celebrate, Jaeger-LeCoultre decided to update its most popular model. The new version is larger than the original: 45 by 24 millimeters. The green strap and dial are reminiscent of the pine trees of the Vallée de Joux: the nature reserve where Jaeger-LeCoultre originated . Tag Heuer
Omega Omega has three top models to its name: the Speedmaster, the Railmaster and the Seamaster. The Speedmaster is a trusted model for NASA. The Railmaster resists the magnetic field around large machines. You can count on the Seamaster, as the name suggests, during deep sea diving.
Themes have been carefully worked out this year. The new omega first copy watches comes in deep blue and pitch black dial. The markers are sandy and the hands have an iconic shape. The timepiece, surrounded by a metal case, comes with a steel or brown calf leather strap. Hublot You know roughly what to expect from a name like the Big Bang. The Ice Bang is made of tantalum, a substance found in nuclear reactors. The Caviar Bang contains 544 individual diamonds and costs a million dollars. The Big Bang Red Gold is made of gold that Hublot developed itself. Now the brand comes with four new Big Bangs, including the Integral Tourbillon Sapphire: the first watch in the world made entirely of sapphire. The Sang Blue II in Ceramic, designed by a popular tattoo studio, is also impressive.
